About Luxor Temple
Luxor Temple is one of Egypt’s most elegant and beautifully preserved ancient monuments, located in the heart of Luxor along the Nile Corniche. Unlike many other temples, Luxor Temple was not dedicated to a single god, but to the rejuvenation of kingship — playing a central role in the annual Opet Festival.
Built primarily by Amenhotep III and Ramses II, the temple features a grand entrance pylon, colossal statues, towering columns, and detailed wall reliefs that tell stories of rituals and royal ceremonies. The restored Avenue of Sphinxes once connected Luxor Temple to Karnak Temple, forming a sacred ceremonial pathway.
By day, the temple stands as a magnificent symbol of ancient Thebes; by night, it becomes truly magical when illuminated, rising dramatically above the modern city around it. Luxor Temple offers a unique experience where ancient history and contemporary life exist side by side.
