About Kom Ombo Temple
Kom Ombo Temple is a unique double temple dramatically set along the Nile, north of Aswan. Unlike any other temple in Egypt, Kom Ombo is symmetrically divided to honor two gods: Sobek, the crocodile god of fertility and protection, and Horus the Elder, god of kingship and the sky.
The temple features twin entrances, duplicated halls, and mirrored sanctuaries — a rare architectural design that reflects its dual dedication. Inside, visitors can admire detailed reliefs depicting medical instruments, religious rituals, and royal ceremonies. Nearby, the Crocodile Museum displays mummified crocodiles once worshipped in this sacred place.
Overlooking a gentle curve of the Nile, Kom Ombo is especially beautiful at sunset, making it a favorite stop on Nile cruises and a fascinating blend of mythology, medicine, and ancient engineering.
