About Ramesseum
The Ramesseum is the mortuary temple of Pharaoh Ramses II, located on the West Bank of the Nile in Luxor. Once a grand ceremonial complex, today it stands as a powerful ruin — famous for its fallen colossal statue of Ramses II and beautifully carved reliefs that recount his military victories and royal achievements.
Despite centuries of decay, the Ramesseum still reveals its former glory through towering pylons, columned courtyards, and detailed wall scenes. Walking among its remains offers a quiet, atmospheric experience, allowing visitors to imagine the immense scale and splendor the temple once possessed.
Less crowded than many nearby sites, the Ramesseum is ideal for travelers who enjoy exploring ancient monuments in a peaceful desert setting while uncovering stories of Egypt’s most celebrated pharaoh.
